About Japan Life Coach

Living in Japan can be deeply rewarding, and also unexpectedly hard. Many things are communicated indirectly, and it is common for everything to look “fine” on the surface while you still feel stuck, unsure, or quietly overwhelmed. I support foreign residents and international professionals who want Japan to feel easier to navigate, more stable, and more like home.

I was born and raised in Japan and have lived here for over 30 years. I help people understand what is happening beneath the surface so they can respond with more clarity, confidence, and ease.

With more people building lives here than ever before, I am here to teach both the basics and the nuance so you can thrive personally and professionally. I have seen how small misunderstandings in meetings can quietly slow trust over time, and how everyday interactions can spiral when cultural expectations are missed and no one says it out loud.

Japan is also a place of real beauty, and not only in the scenery. There is a quiet care in how many people show up, how relationships are tended to, and how pride is taken in the details. Once you understand the context, you begin to notice how much thought is often put into timing, consideration, and consistency.

Through my books, courses, coaching, and resources, I share lessons from my own experience, including what worked, what I learned the hard way, and what I wish more people knew earlier.

My hope is that you do not just avoid mistakes, but build a life here where you can connect more deeply with the people and the culture, and genuinely enjoy the journey.

If you want support building a life and career in Japan that feels clearer, steadier, and more like your own, I am here to help.

“Very well written clear concise guide to working in Japan. Nice step by step on what to do, what not to do and how to recover when you do something wrong. I wish I had this guide when I first started working with a Japan customer 12 years ago. This book would have saved me for multiple faux pas’.

“This book is an incredibly practical guide for anyone doing business with Japan. Rather than just talking about cultural differences in theory, Micky breaks down the subtle dynamics that actually influence trust, decision-making, and long-term partnerships in Japanese business culture.”

— Kumar, Mar 2026

“Very helpful in understanding how Japanese people think and what matters to them. There are so many unstated business and cultural expectations, and I found this course profoundly enlightening in helping me position my next visit more thoughtfully and effectively.”
